Help Protect Our Past
Special buildings and places can never be replaced, but they can be lost through apathy, neglect and shortsightedness.
The Preservation and Conservation Association was formed in 1981 to help preserve the built environment of Champaign County. Since then, PACA has worked to educate the public and our elected officials about the importance of historic preservation.
PACA’s efforts have helped to save endangered buildings such as the Greek Revival Cottage, the Orpheum Theatre, the Nathan C. Ricker House, and the Harwood-Solon House. PACA continually works to renovate buildings and to save others from demolition.
A Landmark Decision
You CAN make a difference. The Preservation Association is a membership group made up of citizens from throughout Champaign County and east-central Illinois. It is the only not-for-profit organization working to preserve our local architectural heritage.
Membership support of PACA makes it possible to promote preservation awareness and protect endangered buildings and sites. Currently, PACA has a membership of about 350. This includes individual, student, family and corporate members.
For the Future
Landmark preservation is not just about the past; it’s about the future. It’s about protecting the special character of the places where we grow up, live, work, and raise families. It’s about the places people notice when they visit and the places they remember when they return. Preservation is not just about the character of our buildings; it’s about the character of our lives.
